Error code36
ApplianceWasher
Quick answer
36 is a water leak fault from more than 4 top-ups while agitating; siphoning is the likelier cause, then a leak.
Model compatibility: Fisher & Paykel reuses codes across series and model years, so 36 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
The Motor Controller topped up the water more than 4 times during agitate, pointing to siphoning or a leak.
A full load lets air escape while the washer agitates, so a Smartdrive normally adds water once or twice to compensate. Once the Motor Controller has added water five or more times, 36 is set, and the manual calls that excessive. Titled Water Leak Fault, the entry spans Phases 1 to 6.
The manual’s two explanations
Siphoning is named as the most likely cause. The other is a leak that has developed in the machine.
Check list, in the manual’s order
Pump system (primary)
Work out the height of the drain hose outlet; it must fall between 33.4 in (850 mm) and 47 in (1200 mm).
See that a hose guide is installed and that the hose end projects past it by no more than 3/4 in (20 mm).
Mechanical (secondary)
Inspect where the pressure tube attaches, which is two places: the tub, and the controller module.
Look for any weeping around the drive shaft seal or the pump housing seal.
Motor Controller (tertiary)
When everything above checks out, the manual’s last step is a new controller module, which on Phase 1 means the Display Module.
What an owner can reach
Hose height and guide can both be seen from outside, so a tape measure is enough. The seals and tube attachments are inside, which is a technician’s territory. Tell us about any water around the machine when you call, because a leak is one of the manual’s two explanations.
Related codes
Code 44 repeats the concern over hose length, kinks and backward siphoning, though during spin.
Code 37 covers a blocked pump and gives comparable hose advice.
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
