Code 44 is logged when the Motor Controller still senses water in the tub as the washer spins, possibly from a partial blockage.
Model compatibility: Fisher & Paykel reuses codes across series and model years, so 44 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
The Motor Controller sensed water in the tub during spin, possibly because a partial blockage slowed the pump-out.
A spin is supposed to begin once the tub has drained. If the controller still detects water at that moment, it records code 44, Water in Tub during Spin, which Phases 2 to 6 can show. The manual points to a slow pump-out caused by a partly blocked pump hose, or a partly blocked pump.
Pump-system checks
Is the drain hose crushed or kinked anywhere?
Is it too long? The most the manual permits is a 39 in (1 m) extension having the same diameter.
Tub empty: lift the pump out of its housing and look for a blockage in both pump and hose.
Water still in the tub: work from above. Lift off the top deck and basket, bail the water out, take the cap and hood off the pump, and clear whatever is stuck.
Look for water siphoning back into the washer at the moment the pump stops, which happens when the spin reaches 700 rpm.
When every item checks out, the manual names the Motor Controller module as the secondary source and replaces it.
Easy and difficult items
Items 1 and 2 are visual or measuring checks on the hose. Pulling the pump, the top deck or the basket, and bailing the tub, count as service work. The 700 rpm in the last item is simply the speed at which the pump switches off.
Codes to compare
Code 37: the same hose-length rule, but during draining.
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
