E1 is a door lock fault. The brand's remedy is to remove any laundry blocking the door and press OK.
Model compatibility: Fisher & Paykel reuses codes across series and model years, so E1 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
Door lock error: the door did not lock; clear clothing from the door and press OK.
Both Fisher & Paykel support articles agree on E1. The front loader calls it a door lock error, the washer-dryer article prints “Door locks,” and the remedy is identical and takes seconds.
What to do
Look inside the opening for a garment that stops the door shutting completely.
Move it out of the way and close the door.
Press OK to resume the cycle.
That completes the procedure in both articles. Nothing further, a power supply reset for example, is given for E1.
How each article words it
Flexidose front loader (WH8060J5): door lock error
Washer dryer: E1, Door locks
Not the same as a locked door
The washer dryer has its own “Lock” message. While the water level, temperature or drum speed is beyond the safe operating range, the door stays locked, and the article’s instruction is to let the cycle end before opening it. E1 is a separate message with a separate cause.
If E1 comes back
The articles add no second step and offer no deeper cause. Should the door close properly and E1 still return, schedule a service visit. For both machines Fisher & Paykel advises having the fault code ready when booking, along with the model details for the front loader.
Other washer codes
E7: a motor error, which calls for a restart and then service
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
