Fisher & Paykel Washer 52 Error Code

Content status: Verified

Error code 52
Appliance Washer
Quick answer

Code 52 on a Phase 5 or 6 Eco washer is stored once the tub level needed topping up more than 6 times.

Model compatibility: Fisher & Paykel reuses codes across series and model years, so 52 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.

Plain language

What this code means

The washer tried more than 6 times to top up the tub water level, which the manual ties to the diverter valve.

What triggers code 52

The washer counts its attempts to raise the tub water level. Once that count goes past 6, code 52 is stored. It exists only on Phase 5 and Phase 6 Eco models. The manual offers two readings: the diverter valve failed to close and the water is running to drain, or the top-up could not lift the level fast enough because a blockage is draining it as well.

Parts in the manual, first to second

  • Diverter valve (primary): take it out and look for blockages or a broken hinge mechanism.
  • Wax solenoid (secondary): measure its resistance and inspect the terminals for corrosion, which shows as a green deposit.

Resistance figures

The expected reading sits between 0.7k and 2.5k ohms. The manual adds that the figure shifts with room temperature and with how recently the valve was actuated. A reading outside that band means replacement. The specification section gives the same 0.7k to 2.5k ohms for the diverter valve.

52 next to 36

Both codes complain about repeated top-ups. For 36 the limit is 4, during agitate, and the suspects are siphoning, hose height and leaks. For 52 the limit is 6 and the suspect is the diverter. Code 36 covers the first of those.

Who does what

Removing the diverter and putting a meter on the solenoid are not owner tasks, and the manual lists no reset for this code.

Related Eco codes

  • Code 51 describes water that drained away rather than recirculating.
  • Code 36 is the top-up count over 4 during agitate.
