Fisher & Paykel Washer 47 Error Code: Basket Disengage, Phases 2-3

Content status: Verified

Error code 47
Appliance Washer
Quick answer

Code 47 is a Phase 2 and 3 basket disengage fault in which no valid tub status could be determined.

Model compatibility: Fisher & Paykel reuses codes across series and model years, so 47 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.

Plain language

What this code means

In the basket check the Motor Controller could not determine a valid tub status for 2 minutes on Phases 2 and 3.

How 47 differs from 40

Both are basket disengage faults. The manual separates them in one line: code 40 comes with a valid status, whereas code 47 means no valid tub status could be worked out. Code 47 is also confined to Phases 2 and 3, while 40 spans Phases 1 to 6.

What the washer did

On a Phase 2 or 3 Smartdrive, a basket check pointed to a basket that was disengaged, while the pressure sensor reported an empty tub. The controller carried on checking for 2 minutes without arriving at a valid tub status, then displayed 47.

Manual checks

  1. No clothes or foreign objects should be stopping the clutch from re-engaging.
  2. The pressure tube must still be attached and free of kinks.
  3. If both are fine, the pressure sensor in the Motor Controller module may be at fault, and the manual says that module is replaced.

Owner contribution

The clutch and the tube are inside the washer. What you can offer is a recollection of whether the load or some garment could have jammed. The manual describes no user reset for this code.

Machines covered

Phase 2 is GW701, GW601 and GW501, together with MW051, W015, MW061 and MW071. Phase 3 is GW703, GW603 and GW503, together with MW053 and LW035. Newer machines do not carry this code.

Related basket-check codes

  • Code 40: the broader entry that spans Phases 1 to 6.
  • Code 56: no valid status again, but on Phases 4 to 6.
