Fault 9 means the display size switch and the controller memory disagree on machine size. The manual gives separate actions by phase.
Model compatibility: Fisher & Paykel reuses codes across series and model years, so 9 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
The Display size switch setting differs from the setting held in memory (Phases 1 to 6).
What the mismatch is
The washer keeps its size in memory, while the display carries a size switch. Fault 9, headed “Size Switch Error,” appears when the two disagree. It is listed for Phases 1 through 6, and the remedy the manual gives varies with the generation and with recent work on the washer.
After a Display swap (Phases 1, 2 and 3)
When a new Display module has just gone into a console housing, confirm the two size switch plungers seat accurately against the housing. Should the fault turn up in ordinary running, the manual names condensation damage, the size switch itself, or a failed Display module as things to look at.
After a Motor Controller change (Phases 1, 2 and 3)
A Motor Controller that has come from a different machine size leaves the wrong size switch settings in memory, and they need resetting. The method: enter then leave Option Adjustment mode by holding START/PAUSE and pressing POWER.
Phase 4 Series 8, Phase 5 Series 9 and 10, Phase 6 Series 11
Here the size is picked again in SIZE SETTING MODE, entered by holding WATER TEMP UP while pressing POWER. Then use the button for your size:
5 kg: temperature up, until the Cold LED lights
6 kg: water level up, until the Low water level LED lights
7 kg: spin speed up, until the Hold LED lights
Safety
Condensation damage puts moisture next to live electronics, so unplug the washer first. Where a part swap has left the wrong size stored, that is a service matter.
