Fifteen code numbers, 81 to 95, share a single meaning: Display to Motor Controller communication. The manual sends readers to fault 106.
Model compatibility: Fisher & Paykel reuses codes across series and model years, so 81 / 82 / 83 / 84 … may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
Display to Motor Controller communications error, listed as 81 to 95 for Phase 2 to 3 machines.
A single fault under fifteen numbers
The service manual does not describe these numbers one by one. A single printed line, “81. – 95.”, sits under a Phase 2 to 3 Display/Motor Controller heading, and the reader is told to look at fault code 106. A washer showing anything from 81 up to 95 is therefore reporting the same problem.
What is covered
81 through 85: communications error between the Display and the Motor Controller, Phases 2 and 3
86 through 90: identical entry
91 through 95: identical entry
The sequence under 106
Fault 106 records that the Display module noticed a communications error with the Motor Controller. Work proceeds in a set order:
Replace the Display module, the primary source.
If that does not settle it, replace the Motor Controller module, the secondary source. A cure from the new Motor Controller means the original Display module is refitted.
So the manual changes one board per step, and puts the first Display back if the Motor Controller was the real cause.
Machines
Among others, the GW701, GW601 and GW501 are in Phase 2, and the GW703, GW603 and GW503 in Phase 3. These are some of the earlier machines in the manual.
Communication faults nearby
Fault 104: a Display to Motor Controller error across Phases 2 to 6
Fault 106: the entry that this whole group points to
Fault 105: communications timeout between the same two boards
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
