Fisher & Paykel Washer 49 Error Code: Cold Water Valve

Code 48 takes in both valves; 49 isolates the cold one. A voltage seen on the valve diagnostic circuit tells the Motor Controller that the cold valve, which the manual calls the proportional valve, is faulty. Phases 2 to 6 are covered.

Use the code 48 procedure

The manual does not list steps again under 49. It sends the reader to fault code 48, and repeats the likeliest cause: a valve harness that is not connected correctly, or a valve that is open circuit.

1. Wiring: the harness is secure on the valve, and no pins are bent backwards.
2. Valve: the coil is not open circuit.
3. Failing both, the Motor Controller module is replaced.

Code 49 as a teaching example

In the diagnostic section, 49 is the example for reading the last fault. In diagnostic mode the binary code is read off the Wash Progress lights, and 32 + 16 + 1 gives 49, a cold water valve fault. Entering diagnostic mode takes a button sequence that depends on the model, which makes this technician-level information.

Series 11 numbers for the cold valve

• Resistance of the proportional valve: 64 ohms at 20 C (68 F).
• Flow rate: 16 litres per minute.
• Supply: 24 volts DC.

Harness plug detail

The Series 11 notes explain that a valve can come with its coil in either of two orientations, though the fittings are identical. To pull the harness plug off, a small retaining clip has to be released first.
