Code 43 is an out-of-balance (OOB) switch fault: the signal says permanently on, or the harness is off. Phases 1 to 6.
Model compatibility: Fisher & Paykel reuses codes across series and model years, so 43 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
The signal from the out-of-balance switch shows it permanently on, or its harness disconnected, on Phases 1 to 6.
The part involved
The out-of-balance switch (OOB) is what tells a Smartdrive washer that the load has moved over to one side. Code 43 appears when the signal returning from the switch says it is stuck permanently on, or that its harness is disconnected. Phases 1 to 6 are covered.
What the manual asks, in order
Confirm the switch can move freely.
Make sure no harness is blocking its movement.
Operate the switch to see that it responds correctly; replace it if in doubt.
Where the micro switch shows corrosion, replace the switch together with its harness, and add a condensation kit to the console area unless the top deck already has one.
Check the machine level and the bias spring.
Check the wiring: the harness to the switch must be connected properly, with its terminals on the normally closed position. Terminals that are corroded mean a new harness.
Only once all of that is done, change the Motor Controller module (on Phase 1, the Display Module).
Owner share of the work
Whether the washer stands level on its feet is the single point here that can be seen from outside. The top deck, the console and the harness belong to a technician, and the washer should be unplugged first.
Neighbouring mechanical-sensor codes
Code 242: on Phase 6, an out-of-balance hit larger than the maximum, lasting 5 seconds.
Code 234: the Phase 6 lid lock circuit is open; the Series 11 section notes the lid lock wiring shares the OOB switch harness.
