Fisher & Paykel Washer 41 Error Code: Thermistor Reading High

Content status: Verified

Error code 41
Appliance Washer
Quick answer

Code 41: the wash-water thermistor reads above 110 C, likely a shorted sensor line. Intuitive and GW models only.

Model compatibility: Fisher & Paykel reuses codes across series and model years, so 41 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.

Plain language

What this code means

The temperature sensor (thermistor) reads above 110 C, which the manual puts down to a probable short in the sensor line.

The washer’s temperature sensor has measured more than 110 C. A probable short circuit in the sensor line is the explanation the manual offers. Phases 1 to 6 list the code, though it concerns only the Intuitive Washer and GW models.

Step list by phase

  • Phase 1 (source: Motor Controller): inspect the connections of the 12 way harness and look for moisture around the console; fit a new Motor Controller; if that fails, fit a new Display Module, and put the first Motor Controller back when the new display cures the fault.
  • Phases 2 to 4 (source: Motor Controller): the Motor Controller module is changed, with no other step.
  • Phases 5 and 6 (source: thermistor): inspect the link between thermistor and Motor Controller; measure the thermistor, which ought to show 12.5k ohms when the temperature is 20 degrees C (68 F), and swap it if not; after that, replace the Motor Controller.

About the thermistor

This is the wash-water temperature sensor. The manual calls it an NTC type, reading 10,000 ohms at 25 C. Inside the ecosmart it is found in the inlet chamber, and it is supplied as a separate spare part. A meter is needed to measure resistance, and the washer must be unplugged first.

Codes that look similar

Code 10 is the reverse case: an open circuit, or surroundings colder than minus 10 C. Code 237 is a Phase 6 continuity problem, and the manual sets it beside both 10 and 41.

  • Code 10: the thermistor circuit is open.
  • Code 237: temperature sensor trouble on Phase 6.
