Code 5 names the freezer (FC) sensor and a resistance above the normal range.
Model compatibility: Fisher & Paykel reuses codes across series and model years, so 5 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
Resistance of the FC (freezer) sensor is above 45K ohms, outside the normal range.
When the freezer shows 5, the sensor in question is the one in the freezer compartment, known as the FC sensor. Its resistance is above 45K ohms and therefore outside the normal range. Unlike code 3, which involves every sensor, this fault names only one.
Technician sequence
Inspect the sensor’s connection at the power module.
Replace the sensor when the connection turns out to be sound.
Why the number is a fault
These sensors are thermistors, meaning their resistance shifts as the temperature shifts. The service manual’s table shows 25.17K ohms at -30 degrees C, falling to 6.000K ohms at 0 degrees C. A value above 45K lies outside that table altogether.
A diagnostic mode for reading temperatures
Enter it by holding MODE while pressing the temperature UP button.
The first reading is the PC sensor temperature. Another press of UP moves to the FC sensor.
Work out the temperature by adding up the values of the lit LEDs and subtracting 40.
If you do not leave the mode, it ends by itself after 5 minutes. Door alarms do not work while it is running.
This is a service procedure. Use it only if a technician has asked you to.

Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
