Code 10: the fresh food sensor resistance fell below its normal range. Check the connection, then replace the sensor.
Model compatibility: Fisher & Paykel reuses codes across series and model years, so 10 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
The PC (fresh food) sensor resistance is below the normal range, under 660 ohms.
Think of code 10 as the fresh food side reporting a sensor problem. The Active Smart service manual uses “PC” for the fresh food compartment, and its temperature sensor is a thermistor, meaning the part’s electrical resistance varies with temperature. Code 10 is raised when that resistance drops under 660 ohms, which lies outside the normal range.
Numbers compared with the manual’s table
Healthy sensor: 25.17 kilohms at -30 C, falling to 0.9106 kilohms at 50 C.
Code 10: under 0.66 kilohms, which is below the lowest figure in the table.
Code 9, the reverse fault: over 45 kilohms, above the highest figure in the table.
No real compartment temperature matches such a low reading. For that reason the controller regards it as a sensor or wiring fault rather than as a warm refrigerator. Beyond the out-of-range reading, the manual offers no cause.
What the technician does, in order
Inspect the sensor connection at the power module.
With the connection sound, swap the sensor for a new one.
A diagnostic mode also exists in the manual. It shows the PC sensor temperature as an LED pattern: add the lit values and take away 40 to obtain degrees Celsius. That is a tool for technicians, and readings move quickly once a door has been opened.
Safe things for an owner to do
Quiet the alarm with any control button, or reset it by unplugging for a few seconds.
Leave the sensor wires inside the compartment alone; no pulling.
Judge food temperature some other way for as long as the fault is active.
Compare with these sensor codes
Code 9 is this same PC sensor, but reading too high.
Code 6 concerns the freezer (FC) sensor reading too low.
Sensor repair for fridges and freezers in Los Angeles
For a code 10 in Los Angeles, call (310) 872-1939. Give the number from the LEDs and tell the dispatcher whether the fresh food side has been warm or cold. The refrigerator and freezer repair page lists what the work covers.
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
