Code 1 reports a power module that failed its own test at start-up; the manual's one action is replacing it.
Model compatibility: Fisher & Paykel reuses codes across series and model years, so 1 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
The power module failed its self-test the last time the appliance powered up.
Code 1 is the power module reporting on itself. Fisher & Paykel’s 2004 documentation for Active Smart refrigerator-freezers explains it like this: at the most recent power-up the module checked itself and did not pass. One cause is given and one remedy: a new power module.
What you see and hear
No button press is needed to bring up a fault. It appears on the display unprompted, together with an audible alarm.
The LED at the bottom blinks red and takes turns with the lit-LED pattern that encodes the fault.
Touching a control button mutes the alarm. The ordinary display returns, but only 8 seconds pass before the code resumes flashing.
Numbering is binary. Each LED carries its own value, and you add up whichever ones are lit. In the manual’s sample the 2-value and 16-value LEDs are on, giving 18.
Owner actions
Cut mains power to the appliance for several seconds to reset the alarm. Without that, the alarm ends on its own once 72 hours have passed.
Keep the doors closed wherever possible, since the food compartments rely on the appliance operating.
Phone service and quote the code number.
The technician’s side
The manual lists a primary action alone: the power module is replaced. Compared with most other codes there is nothing to check first, no connector to reterminate and nothing secondary.
Neighbouring codes
Defrost, sensors, heater and fans are spread across codes 2 to 18. Code 1 sits apart, because the module it names is the one doing the measuring behind them all. Compare code 3, where every sensor reads outside its range simultaneously; that situation can also point to the power module.
