Code 12: heater and both fans together draw too much current. The manual begins at the 6-way connector.
Model compatibility: Fisher & Paykel reuses codes across series and model years, so 12 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
Current measured for the ambient heater, PC fan and FC fan is higher than expected.
Code 12 mirrors code 11, but with excess current. The power module adds up the draw of the LAH heater, the PC fan and the FC fan, and finds it above the expected amount.
Which parts?
Three: the heater that works at low ambient temperature, the fresh food fan and the freezer fan, all metered as one group. Under this code the manual does not name the culprit among them. For that you look to codes 14, 16 and 18, which pick out the heater, the PC fan and the FC fan one by one when any of them pulls too much.
Service order in the manual
Inspect the 6-way fan/LAH RAST connector at the power module.
Reterminate it.
Finally, fit a new power module.
How to read the pattern
The number appears in binary on the LEDs. Each lit LED has its value and the values are summed. In the manual’s own sample, 2 and 16 give 18, so code 12 is whichever pattern totals twelve.
Timing of the reading
Powering up, or closing a door while powered, starts a self-test of 20 seconds. A door opened during that window can alter what the display shows. Keep the doors shut, give it time to settle, and take the code from the display after the test ends.
Is the alarm a hazard?
No hazard is described in the manual, only an audible alarm, a blinking bottom LED and the pattern. Because this is a fault of excess current, though, it makes sense to leave the unit unplugged if you notice heat, a burnt smell or damaged wiring, and to tell the person you phone.
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
