Code 13 is a heater drawing too little current. Wiring is checked first, then the heater resistance.
Model compatibility: Fisher & Paykel reuses codes across series and model years, so 13 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
The low ambient heater draws less current than expected, from an open circuit or a faulty heater.
Code 13 is about the low ambient heater, LAH in the manual’s shorthand. The power module has a current in mind whenever it turns this heater on, and under code 13 the measured value is smaller. Per the manual, either the heater or its wiring is open circuit, or the heater is faulty.
Open circuit in everyday terms
It is a gap in the route, so nothing can flow through. A loose plug, a snapped wire or an element that has burnt out all have this effect, and the module sees no difference between them.
Service steps
Inspect the wiring and connections at each end: the heater itself and the power module.
Measure the ambient heater resistance. When it is outside limits, a new heater goes in.
The manual stops at those two steps, and the limits themselves are absent from the code list.
A display that can mislead
The self-test of 20 seconds checks the low ambient heater before anything else. With the fan and heater connector detached from the power module and a door pulled open right as the alarm starts, the sequence has covered only that first item, so 13 is what appears. Technicians wait the full 20 seconds before opening up, in order to see the final code. If your alarm started at power-up and you opened a door straight away, what you saw might be a result from early in the test.
Owner options
Mute the alarm with a control button, or reset it by unplugging for a few seconds.
Keep probes and tools away from the wiring.
Tell service whether the doors were opened while the alarm sounded.
Phone (310) 872-1939 about a heater fault in Los Angeles and share the code, together with whether a door was opened during the alarm. The refrigerator and freezer repair page is the place for further information.
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
