Code 7 reports the evaporator, or defrost, sensor reading above 45K ohms.
Model compatibility: Fisher & Paykel reuses codes across series and model years, so 7 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
The evaporator sensor resistance is outside the normal range, above 45K ohms.
Three temperature sensors feed an Active Smart refrigerator, the evaporator sensor being the third. Code 7 is raised when that sensor measures above 45K ohms, which the control will not accept. The manual’s other name for its reading is defrost sensor temperature.
Repair steps in the manual
Examine the connection between sensor and power module.
Fit a new sensor.
Where the defrost sensor fits
According to the manual, no defrost takes place while the defrost sensor reads above +8 degrees C. The sensor therefore has a say in when the defrost heater may run. A poor reading can disturb that logic, and the fault sits near code 2, aborted defrosts. The manual does not connect the two codes, so treat that only as background.
Technician’s reading method
Hold MODE and UP together to open diagnostic mode.
Press UP two times to show the defrost sensor temperature on the LEDs.
Total the lit values, then deduct 40 to get degrees C.
Worked case: 32, 8, 4 and 0.5 lit gives 44.5, so 4.5 degrees C.
For the owner
This sensor sits in the cold part of the cabinet, so there is no safe owner repair. Look for frost forming in the freezer and check how cold the food is. Pressing any button quiets the alarm for now.

Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
