Code 5 reports the freezer (FC) sensor resistance above the 45K ohm limit.
Model compatibility: Fisher & Paykel reuses codes across series and model years, so 5 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
The FC (freezer) sensor resistance is outside the normal range, above 45K ohms.
When code 5 shows, the freezer sensor (FC) is the part in question. It measures over 45K ohms, and the control reads that as outside its range.
Manual repair plan
Technician checks the sensor connection at the power module.
If the connection is sound, the sensor is replaced.
There is no board reset step in this entry. That sets it apart from codes 3 and 4, where the module comes last in the list.
What the sensor does
The FC sensor tells the control how warm the freezer compartment is. If the reading cannot be used, the cabinet may not hold the freezer temperature as intended. Feel the frozen food from time to time. Should it begin to soften, move it into another freezer.
Reading it in diagnostic mode
Hold MODE and press UP to enter diagnostic mode.
Press UP one more time to bring up the FC sensor temperature.
The LEDs give the value in binary.
Go in as soon as the door is first opened, because air temperature rises quickly after that.
Door alarms are switched off while diagnostic mode is running.
Leave these alone
Do not pry at the freezer wall to find the sensor and do not splice any wires. A button press quiets the alarm for the moment, and unplugging the unit for a few seconds resets it.
Related codes
Code 6: the very same freezer sensor, reading under 660 ohms.
Code 17: low freezer fan current, another fault on the FC side.
