Error codeF4 / E4
ApplianceDishDrawer Dishwasher
Quick answer
F4 is a sensor-or-element fault with no owner repair. What to know before ringing.
Model compatibility: Fisher & Paykel reuses codes across series and model years, so F4 / E4 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
Faulty temperature sensor or element; heating element failure.
What F4 names
F4 names two parts together, the temperature sensor and the heating element. The DD24/DD60 guide reads “faulty temperature sensor or element”, and the support article narrows it to “heating element failure”. The remedy is identical in both and is not something an owner does.
Sensor and element share a code
Water is heated by the element, and the sensor reports to the controller how warm it is. When either one fails, the controller cannot reach the right wash or drying temperature, so a single code can stand for both. How the controller decides which part has failed is not covered in the documents.
Published guidance
Older guide: phone a service centre or Customer Care.
Support article: F4 is on the list of faults that “require a service technician”, along with F5 to F9 and FC.
Neither text provides a reset, cleaning step or check.
One restart is acceptable
The general fault routine in the guide works for any code: quiet the beeper, switch off for a few seconds, switch on. Trying it once does no harm. If F4 comes back, stop there and arrange service instead of power-cycling again and again.
Safety
The element lives in a wet appliance powered from the mains, so the housing should stay shut. When you phone, report the code displayed on each drawer.
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
