Error codeF3 / E3
ApplianceDishDrawer Dishwasher
Quick answer
F3 is about water temperature: incoming supply should stay below 65 C.
Model compatibility: Fisher & Paykel reuses codes across series and model years, so F3 / E3 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
Water temperature fault; temperature sensor failed.
A DishDrawer showing F3 has a temperature problem. The older DD24/DD60 wording is “temperature sensor failed”; the support article instead gives “water temperature fault”. The sensible opening question is how hot the supply feeding the machine is.
The 65 C figure
All three manufacturer documents quote the same limit: incoming water must stay under 65 C, which the Classic guide converts to 149 F in its E3 entry. A hot supply set higher than this may call for a tempering valve, says the guide.
Steps open to you
Check what temperature the water heater serving the DishDrawer is set to.
If the setting is over 65 C, a tempering valve may be needed. It blends cold water into the hot so the outlet never goes beyond a chosen maximum.
Leave the fitting to a professional unless plumbing is something you are comfortable with. The support article says to book a service.
Hot water scalds, so be careful with any change at the heater, and have a plumber or technician make it.
The Classic wording
Classic panels display E3, and the guide there is plumbing-focused: fit a tempering valve to the supply if that is what keeps the incoming water below 65 C (149 F). The support article repeats it bluntly, saying a valve may be required and a service should be booked. Ahead of any phone call, work out which line feeds the DishDrawer with hot water and ask around whether the heater was recently turned up.
When the water is not too hot
In that case the sensor itself may be at fault. No owner check is given for it, and no sensor test is described, so service is the route.
How F3 differs from F4
Do not swap it with F4, which points at the sensor or the heating element and gives the owner nothing to check; F3 alone comes with the supply-temperature hint.
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
