Error codeU6 / A6
ApplianceDishDrawer Dishwasher
Quick answer
One spray arm fault under two names. Refit the arm and resume; low pressure is the second cause.
Model compatibility: Fisher & Paykel reuses codes across series and model years, so U6 / A6 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
The spray arm has come loose or off its mounting, or the water pressure is too low.
U6 and A6 describe the same trouble. Classic-model panels display U6, newer DishDrawers display A6, and the manufacturer explains both identically: either the arm that sprays has worked loose or dropped off its mounting, or the incoming water pressure is too low.
What the spray arm does
It is the rotating arm in the floor of the drawer that sprays water onto the dishes. A loose arm means the drawer cannot do a proper wash.
Fixing it, per the A6 guide
Pull the drawer open and inspect the spray arm.
If the arm is loose or off, put it back. It must sit firmly and spin without catching.
Tap start/pause once so the beeping stops, then tap it once more to clear the fault.
A further tap of start/pause carries on with the wash cycle.
The Classic U6 flowchart opens by asking the same thing: has the arm come loose or off its mounting? If so, put it back following the maintenance instructions, shut the drawer and press the button to resume.
Arm in place, code still showing
Where the arm is seated correctly, the Classic guide’s verdict is low water pressure, and it notes that a “4 litre” valve might have to be fitted to the supply. Such a change is plumbing work and belongs to a technician or plumber, not to improvisation.
Finding the refit instructions
The fault tables in both guides leave out the refit procedure. Classic owners are sent to the User maintenance instructions chapter, A6 owners to the Maintenance chapter. Keep the printed booklet for your model close at hand, or ask Customer Care for a copy.
Side by side
U6: shown on Classic models.
A6: shown on newer models that use A-codes.
Both: the arm is loose or missing, or pressure is low. The remedy is to refit the arm, let it turn freely, clear the fault and resume.
Questions people ask
Must the program be cancelled? No, once the arm is fixed you simply resume the wash with start/pause.
The arm is firm but the code comes back? The sources then point to water pressure. Follow the Classic flowchart: disconnect, and call.
Other water-related codes
U1: water missing, which one guide also connects with the spray arm.
If the arm refit changes nothing, ring (310) 872-1939 for DishDrawer repair in Los Angeles. Quote the code and describe the way the arm was sitting when you opened the drawer. More on DishDrawer repair is on the service page.
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
